WWE Tag Team Champions Cody Rhodes & Goldust vs Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins vs The Usos

The tag team division has been ratcheting up the intensity in recent months, but perhaps no moment has been as exciting — or welcome — as when Cody Rhodes & Goldust shocked the WWE Universe by unseating dominant WWE Tag Team Champions Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns of The Shield. At WWE Hell in a Cell, the stakes get a little higher as The Hounds of Justice get their chance to recapture championship gold, albeit with an additional stumbling block — namely, The Usos.

After a match on the Oct. 21 Raw between The Shield and Jey & Jimmy Uso failed to designate No. 1 contenders to the WWE Tag Team Titles (a designation that technically belonged to The Usos, but had to be earned yet again), SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero — in her capacity as the temporary GM of Raw — turned this Sunday’s title bout into a whirlwind Triple Threat Match.

Capturing the WWE Tag Team Titles was an interesting turn of events for the much-beleaguered Rhodes brothers, whose recent success has come in spite of the best efforts of The Authority. With the grace under pressure and tenacity demonstrated by these two Superstars, however, there’s no reason to expect them to crack. If and how WWE’s top brass gets involved in the match is yet to be seen, but even if they don’t, the caliber of their challengers alone will give the Rhodeses as much as they can handle.

Emerging from one of the most dominant and cohesive units in the WWE today, Rollins & Reigns have shown a brutal precision in their matches, successfully turning back every challenger to their Tag Team Title reign until Cody Rhodes & Goldust ousted them in a highly competitive match on the Oct. 14 Raw. For their part, The Usos have consistently excelled, falling just short in a few championship contests against The Shield but never really leaving the title conversation.

As dangerous as both of these teams are, momentum is a hard thing to overcome and the Rhodeses have that in spades. Whether the emotion of their improbable string of victories will be enough to carry them through two sets of contenders, however, is a whole different story. Tune into the WWE Hell in a Cell this Sunday, Oct. 27 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT to see which team walks out with the championship gold.
