Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel vs. Big E Langston
Thanks to a dismissive, and possibly careless, remark by his manager Paul Heyman, Curtis Axel has a new enemy — and a new title contender — in the form of Big E Langston. Now, the two Superstars are set to collide over Axel’s Intercontinental Championship this Sunday at the WWE Hell in a Cell Kickoff, which streams live at 7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. PT.
In addition to the high-octane title match, the pay-per-view precursor — which will be available in Spanish on YouTube — will also feature expert panel analysis from some of your favorite WWE personalities.
The trouble between the defending Intercontinental Title holder and his juggernaut of a challenger began with Heyman’s seemingly offhand comments on SmackDown. After CM Punk vanquished the 290-pound Langston in a competitive bout, the “Godfather of Extreme” — seeking to belittle The Second City Saint’s accomplishment — described Big E as a “marginally talented rookie barely out of the NXT division.”
To the surprise of much of the WWE Universe, Langston then foiled an attempt by Axel and Ryback to dismantle an outnumbered Punk, and a subsequent run-in between the monstrous powerhouse and the two “Paul Heyman Guys” on Raw only further cemented what the WWE Universe had already guessed: that the proud Langston has Axel in his crosshairs.
After already enduring his share of close calls with losing the title, can the third-generation Superstar use his technical prowess and at-times underhanded tactics to get past his much larger foe? Or will Langston — who emphatically shouted “Who’s the rookie now?!” after demolishing Axel on SmackDown — discredit Heyman’s scouting report and employ the Big Ending en route to capturing his first championship in WWE?
